Obituary for Donald Gray Hottinger

Donald Gray Hottinger, 72, was born on November 21, 1942, in Harrisonburg, VA. Don was raised in the Shenandoah Valley and graduated from James Wood High School .

Don was employed by Kinney Corporation for 40 years and rose to Regional Auditing Manager. Don and his wife Marcie have held Kinney get-togethers on their Waleska farm where they have a menagerie of animals, including rescue Pyrenees. His favorite pet, however, has been his pal Buddy, a chocolate mixed breed whom Don has described as “a gentleman.”

Loving, generous and kind, with a great sense of humor, Don has lived a happy life and traveled widely with his wife Marcie of 16 years. Don and Marcie attended Waleska United Methodist Church for many years before moving to Canton United First Methodist Church where they found peace and joy.

Don was married to the former Brenda Baxter (deceased) and is survived by their two children, Mark and his wife Margaret Hottinger of Coaling, Alabama and Katherine Crystal (KC) Amerson and her husband Ozzie, of Chesapeake, VA, as well as five grandchildren, a stepdaughter Elizabeth Suber of Atlanta, two step grandchildren and one step great grandson. Don has one sister, Diane Hottinger Mullen, of Chesapeake, VA and one brother Durwood Hottinger (deceased).

Don passed on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Memorial Services are scheduled for 3:00 PM on Wednesday, February 11th from the Waleska United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM at Waleska United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
