Obituary for Howard Clayton Thomas

Howard Clayton Thomas, age of 95, of Canton, GA passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Heritage Hospice.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 28, at St. Clements Episcopal Chrurch with Father James Stutler officiating.

Howard Clayton Thomas was born in Mandan, ND on April 9th, 1919 to Wilbur Thomas and Josephine Bauman. His father died when he was a year old and his family then moved to Salt Lake City a few years later where he grew up and attended school in the Salt Lake area.

He was employed at the Kennecott Copper mine as a crane operator when he joined the Army Air Force prior to WWII and served in the Air Warning Battalion in the Philippines and New Guinea during the war.
After the war, he married Anne Hopkins Mullikin and attended Drexel University in Philadelphia to become what we call today a Facility Manager.

Howard was Facility Manager for a number of institutions in Pennsylvania and later in New York, including Pratt institute and the Union Theological Seminary.

Howard was active in the Episcopal Church serving on vestries and as an usher. He was an avid farmer at their antique summer home in the Catskills of NY and later here in Georgia living with his son Reed. He also enjoyed card games, woodworking and fixing things.

Howard is survived by his two sons - Reed Thomas with his wife Svitlana and Stephen Thomas with his wife Sandra, three grandchildren - Matthew and David and Kimberley, and two great-grandchildren - Benjamin and Zachery. He is the last survivor of an extended family of 8 children.
