Mrs. Louise DeVane Alexander, 78, of Canton, GA, died Sunday , October 18 , 2015 at her home in Canton.

Louise was born in Moultrie, GA on June 30, 1937 to Finous Autry DeVane and Marion MacArthur DeVane.

A 1955 graduate of Cordele High School, she received her Associate’s degree from Birdwood College in Thomasville.

Her first job was that of an assistant Secretary/Treasurer in the Board offices of the Pulaski County School System. After years as a homemaker, she went back to school to earn her Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, teaching in Crisp County Schools in Cordele. She then taught in Fitzgerald City Schools under the leadership of her husband and then Superintendent, Warren Alexander.

She retired from teaching in 1994, heading to the mountains and streams of North Georgia with Warren. They moved to beautiful wooded acreage in Talking Rock in 1994, 40 miles from their children, Mark and Dale.

She was a member of Northside Primitive Baptist Church in Marietta, where she played the piano. She also worked with her husband as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Primitive Baptist Scholarship Foundation for over 30 years.

She had numerous ministries, of which the most recognized was her “Scripture Kits”, containing 84 cards with scripture verses and some small mementos attached to it in relation to the verse. She sent over 740 to others suffering in some way. Guideposts magazine wrote an article on Louise and this ministry of hers. Survivors include: sons Mark and Cathy Alexander of Woodstock and Dale and Kimberly Alexander of Canton. One sister, Mary Barrett of Lakeland, FL. She also leaves five grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m.on October 20, 2015 at Northside Primitive Baptist Church in Marietta, with Elder Jason Solomon officiating.

A second service was held October 21st at 2p.m at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Ocilla, GA with Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.


Music was provided by Sandra Alexander, sister-in-law of Louise, with the congregation singing.
