501's Last Call

Chief Whidby had a calling, to help those in pain. Sickness, fire or injury, JT always came. Day or night, rain or snow. Whenever the pager made that sound he was ready to go. Burning his own gas, or driving that old Fire truck. When # 501 called "on scene" We knew we were in luck. The Extrication, Station, The Water Authority and other names like that, he trained us well at Station Five to wear many different hats. He was a friend to many and a great one indeed, without a word spoken he could see that someone was in need but with his busy schedule and going all the time he'd find a way to work out and make it all seem fine. With so many things to say and so much good to tell, it would take a thousand pages to make a drop in the well. A distant siren whaled once twice and then three times, then fell silent to us all.... It was then that we knew it was # 501's last call! Chief Whidby will be greatly missed, but to know his knowledge and his expertise will live on as well as all the other things we learned from him about being a good person is a blessing. Mrs Barbara, Jeff Whidby Jason and all of the family, thank you for for sharing Jefferson Taylor Whidby with us, so many lives are better for it....
