Obituary for Kevin Harold Kimball

Kevin Harold Kimball
MSgt USAF (Ret) Kevin Harold Kimball, 56, surrounded by loved ones, was called home on July 20, 2017, on the third floor of Kennestone Hospital. No better man strapped to the wings of God for the betterment of his Country and for no other purpose but for you and I. Kevin fought harder than humanly possible to stay, but God had a different plan; God needed another Angel in Heaven. The huge void his passing creates affects so many people whose lives Kevin touched. He was a Hero, brother, brother-in-law, father, uncle, son, nephew and friend to all he met, he never knew a stranger. He loved his God, Country, and family. Family to Kevin was not just blood, but extended far beyond to an enormous community of friends he had met in his long career in the Air Force and his loyal friends from high school. Kevin was brought home in an Air Force blue blanket and raised in a proud Air Force family. His father was a crew member on B-52’s, so the desire to fly was part of Kevin’s DNA and he knew his career path would always lead him to the wild blue yonder. Becoming a Loadmaster on C-130’s was his dream come true and he loved every minute and every mission. He loved his military brothers more than anything, enjoying gatherings and reunions, laughing about old memories and always planning trips to make new ones. His love and loyalty to the group of guys he went to high school with never wavered and he was so happy to have attended the last reunion and a guy’s weekend to reconnect and catch up with the gang of his youth. Kevin loved his children and talked about how proud he was of all of them, Sarah, Annie, and Robert. He always shared what was going on in their lives and he was so happy he was able to attend his step-son’s Air Force retirement ceremony. He was not well, but said it was important he be there, not a surprise at all, that is what Kevin did… he always showed up. He was on the ready to help anyone in distress or need. He was a Hero. He loved his nieces and nephews and was honored to step in for his brother, who had passed too soon, and did the father/daughter dance with his niece, Katie; there was not a dry eye in the county. This caused some anxiety for him, but was a huge accomplishment. For all who knew Kevin, serious dancing was not his talent. He was raised by parents who always welcomed anyone into their home and treated them as family and Kevin continued the tradition. He was always there to attend graduations or special events for all of his other nieces and nephews, Kelsinator (Kelsey), Kristopher, Jake, and Josh. Kevin had found someone he enjoyed watching sunrises and sunsets with up on the mountain in Morganton, Patti Taylor Cole, his fiancé was by his side till the very end. Kevin was the best brother any sibling could have, always checking on his sissy, Stephanie, and traveling with her many weekends to see their brother, Jeff, when he became ill. This man was loved and respected by so many and he returned the love with his humor, kindness, and loyalty. How will we all go on without this wonderful human being? We will laugh and share his stories and courage so he will continue to live on.

Not how did he die, but how did he live? Not what did he gain, but what did he give? These are the units to measure the worth of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not, what was his church, not what was his creed? But had he befriended those really in need? Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer, to bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say, but how many were sorry when he passed away.
